Do you ever look back on your week and wonder, "What did I do all week?" That's what happened to me as I thought about what I would write in this week's blog. I felt like I had a busy week but I couldn't remember much that I did. So, I looked at my trusty planner to see what filled up my days.
My Rituals for Living Dreambook & Planner by Dragon Tree has been the most effective tool I have ever used to get clear about my goals, plan how to achieve them and follow through on my plans. If you have never used one, I highly recommend it. It is a little on the pricey side but worth every penny!
I have been asked more than once how I break through procrastination and self-doubt. This planner is one of the tools I use. It has helped me to break down big projects, that feel overwhelming and scary, into achievable steps with a reasonable timeline. It brings together two of my favorite things. Creative expression and logistics. ;-)
So what did I do last week? Well, it was a mix of working with my Accounting clients ( I am a free-lance Accountant), yard work, researching the AIP Paleo Protocol, meal planning, shopping, cooking, starting a new project in the studio and getting a new schmancy phone.
The three more exciting developments are the new project in my studio, the new phone, and the new sketchbook.
NEW PHONE: After a lot of research, phone calls and text chats with carrier customer service, we finally decided on a new phone, new carrier, and a new plan. I know have the iPhone X with hopes that the camera will give me more options for photographing my artwork and also doing time-lapse videos of my paintings. I am waiting for a phone stand/tripod to arrive that will allow me to set-up my phone at the right angle for time-lapse videos and tutorials etc. I'm very excited about the possibilities! Do you have an iPhone? What are your experiences?
NEW PROJECT: I finally started my 3D painting project! I am very excited about bringing this vision into reality. My Mom asked me "How did you ever, think of that?" and I am always a little thrown off when someone asks me a direct question about my process. I have to spend some time to go back and figure out, "How did I come up with that?" So, I did, and I believe this project has always been in the works since I first started painting in 2014. I have always wanted to bring my paintings to life as much as possible by adding elements that make them jump off the paper, and as much as I do enjoy the creative side of matting and framing my paintings. I also find it very frustrating and stressful. After I had finished preparing for and hanging my most recent exhibit at the Peterborough Town Library in April, I had a moment of inspiration and a flash of a vision. "How can I display my artwork in a unique way that is more interactive, not just looking at them on a wall but interacting with them and bringing them more into this realm of physical reality?" Then I saw the 3D Tree of Life in my mind's eye and the rest of the project flooded in soon after. Last week I created that 3D Tree of Life, the first piece of my new project. Watch the short video to get a look. This week I am going to be working on more pieces and will hopefully be able to post a time-lapse video for one of them.
NEW SKETCHBOOK: I picked up this new watercolor sketchbook that I have been eyeing for months. I am excited to sit outside somewhere and do some painting!
